At Ikan, we love inspiring young minds and fostering their passion for the broadcast and film industries. We recently had the privilege of hosting a group of about 20-25 students from the Dr. Kirk Lewis Career & Technical High School (CTHS) in Houston, TX. They were excited for the opportunity to see where much of their AV equipment was designed and made.

Upon arrival, the AV production students received a tour of the Ikan facilities and the warehouse. They also received a presentation, hand-on demonstrations from our Product Managers, and advice from industry experts. They learned about what it takes to work in the film, broadcasting, and media production industry and how to make it in the business. Also, they learned about getting started in the business, the future of technology, and educational goals.

“Video production isn’t just art — it is math, science, art, language, and communication all rolled up in a giant package. You can’t just only be a scientist or only an artist. You have to combine both to be in this industry.”

-Michael Webb, ikan VP – Product Development

Students also got a chance to speak with ikan CEO, Kan Yeung, as part of their visit. Kan gave some inspiring advice and talked about success and working hard.

In addition to hearing from ikan professionals, students learned all the steps of production from setting up, lighting, sound, video editing, and graphic design as well as everything that goes into making our ikan products such as marketing, quality control, and shipping. Also, four lucky students won either an iLED-MA or an iLED-MS light! Overall, it was a great educational experience for the students. We hope they all walked away with valuable knowledge on what it takes to be successful in the industry.
