I wanted to repost this event for you all to know and share, if you’re feeling up to it.

About a month and a half ago, a drunk driver tore through the set of Helen Alone, a feature shot here in Houston,  and hit 3 crew members, who sustained broken bones, concussions, and more. It was pretty tragic–fortunately, its finally getting some coverage in the local news.

Using the money raised (goal is $17,500), the event aims to benefit the injured filmmakers by alleviating medical expenses thru assisting with living expenses and bills.

We’re on board as sponsors of the event, booth and all, along with other major local film organizations, such as Southwest Alternative Media Project (SWAMP) and more. Here’s SWAMP’S post on the event and a quote from Michelle Mower, Former director of operations at SWAMP and current Founder of Film Cares organization:

These guys are a big part of our film family and we want to do whatever we can to help them get back on their feet.  This fundraiser is the community’s way of supporting our own and making sure this kind of thing doesn’t happen again.“
